Dear YES Prep families, 

We hope you all had a safe and fun Halloween and are ready for the holiday season! As we head into the weekend, do not forget daylight savings ends this Sunday at 2 a.m., when the clocks will “fall back” one hour.  

November is Veterans and Military Families Month and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all veterans, especially our staff and alumni, who have served our country. We are also grateful for their families who support them day in and day out. Thank you, veterans, for your service and sacrifice to our country.

REMINDER: 2023-2024 NEW STUDENT APPLICATION IS NOW OPEN 

Apply TODAY for the 2023-2024 school year for all SIBLINGS to receive priority application status and the best chance to get a seat at YES Prep next school year!  

To apply, visit yesprep.schoolmint.com. Families DO NOT need to apply for CURRENT YES PREP students. Current YES Prep students are automatically re-enrolled. Our application system for the 2023-2024 application has moved to SchoolMint ENROLL and will require all families to create a new account to apply for any siblings. ATTENDANCE MATTERS 

Daily attendance is critical for student learning and socialization. Research shows that students who are chronically absent- missing 10% or more of school days due to absence for any reason (excused, unexcused, suspensions) - can lead to difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving academically in middle school and graduating from high school.  

We know that you care deeply about your child’s academic and social well-being and the best place for them to learn and grow is at school. Every day your child is absent, they fall behind in their classes and it requires work to catch up. They also miss out on all the opportunities to enjoy school with their peers and their teachers.  

If you or your child are struggling with being at school, we can help. 

When students are sick (short term): 

• Visit a Legacy Community Health Clinic for preventative measures like flu shots or when your child is feeling ill 
• Ask your student support counselor to connect with Legacy Community Health 

 When students are sick (long term): 

• If you are in this situation, contact your campus student support counselor to request a meeting. 

If there are mental health concerns: 

• Please fill out a Student Assistance Form (SAF) if your child needs assistance with mental health services, your Student Support Counselor will follow up to assist. 

If there are transportation concerns: 

• You can find the closest bus stop to your home and access the most up-to-date route information on the YES Prep transportation site. You can submit a bus stop change request and/or update your home address by visiting your child’s home campus during operating hours. 

Within 48 hours after an absence from school, your child should return with an excused note signed by a doctor and/or guardian. Please visit our attendance webpage for more detailed information and resources to support you and your child. 

POSSIP FAMILY PULSE CHECK – OCTOBER RESULTS & NOVEMBER SURVEY DEADLINE  

Possip survey results for October 

Thank you for sharing your feedback on the October Possip Family Pulse Check. We heard from 22.5% of families and 85% reported high satisfaction with their child’s campus. We also learned that 10% of families were struggling with getting their children to school every day. 47% reported that their child missed school due to illness or medical appointments, 33% reported difficulties with transportation and 20% reported social-emotional challenges.  

In response to this data and to increased absenteeism in October, we shared the additional resources and support in the “Attendance Matters” section above. To learn more about our attendance policy, click here. 

November Possip survey due Sun. Nov. 6 

We will continue to use Possip to hear from families so please be on the lookout for the November Possip pulse check that was sent out on Thurs., Nov. 3 via email and text. The short 3-question survey will close at midnight on Sun., Nov. 6!

TEACHER PATHWAY FAMILY SURVEY  

At YES Prep, we believe that the student and family experience is critical to our mission and the work we do. Each semester, families of our pre-K through 2nd-grade students and families of students in our YSTEP, SHINE, BASE, GLOW and SOAR programs receive a Teacher Pathway Family Survey.  

This survey will ask these families to give feedback on two of their child’s teachers. The questions are specific to that teacher and their classroom and ask families to share insight into their experiences. Feedback and data from The Teacher Pathway Family Survey are incorporated into every teacher’s end-of-year teacher evaluation score. Your responses are entirely anonymous; teachers will not be able to see which families gave which feedback. 

The Teacher Pathway Family survey will open on Nov. 7 and close on Dec. 5. You will receive an email from Panorama Education with the survey link. When you launch the survey from the link emailed to you, you should see the names of two of your child’s teachers, as well as a series of questions that ask you to reflect on your child's experience in his/her classroom.  

Your feedback is an invaluable component of reflection and development for your child’s teacher. Please allow 10-20 minutes to complete each survey. Thank you in advance for your feedback! 

TITLE I ANNUAL MEETINGS 

Title I meetings are hosted at our schools to ensure families are aware of their rights and responsibilities in the education of their children. 

We invite you to be part of the conversation at your school's Title I Annual Meeting. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Title I, how you can get involved and share your perspective with your school leadership. The dates and times of upcoming school Title I meetings can be found on the family engagement page of the district website. 

Attention partnership school families: this information does not apply to YES Prep Eisenhower High, YES Prep Northbrook Middle and YES Prep Northbrook High.  

SAT SCORES ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR SENIORS 

For those seniors who took the SAT on Oct. 12, 2022, test scores are published in most students’ College Board accounts by November 3, 2022. If a student had to take the SAT on a make-up day, they may not receive their scores until later in November. Seniors, please discuss your scores with your college counselor to see how your score may affect the decisions you are making about college.  

For students who received 480 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 530 on the Math SAT, you also have earned an exemption from the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA). If you did not, click here to learn more about this standard test Texas colleges administer to place students in the proper English and math courses. 

SAT FOR JUNIORS IS SAT. DEC. 3 

Juniors, your first official administration for the SAT will be the week we return from the upcoming holiday, on Sat., Dec. 3, 2022. Most students have already registered for the SAT in their Junior Seminar Class. Families, your child has been working through Kaplan Test Prep and doing weekly practice in Kahn Academy as part of Junior Seminar to prepare for the SAT. COLLEGE WINTER ENROLLMENT EVENT FOR CLASS OF 2022   

Families of the Class of 2022, did your child not start college this fall? We know some alumni decided to take a semester off before starting college. Others may have had challenges come up in the enrollment process and didn’t start classes. 
 
YES Prep is excited to help members of the Class of 2022 who did not start college in the fall prepare to start college this winter. On Dec. 1, 2022, we will be hosting the Winter Enrollment Event for the Class of 2022. Students can work with our alumni transition specialists and representatives from local community colleges -Houston Community College, Lone Star College and San Jacinto College- to work through their enrollment checklist to be ready to start college in January. 

Your child will also receive a direct invitation to attend. Please encourage them, if they are interested in starting college, to RSVP for an advising session. To RSVP, click here >

Your vote counts! And elections have a major impact on our schools and communities. Make a difference on Tuesday, November 8, by voting in the 2022 Midterm Election.

ASISTENCIA ESCOLAR IMPORTA 

La asistencia diaria es fundamental para el aprendizaje y la socialización de los estudiantes. Las investigaciones muestran que los estudiantes que se ausentan crónicamente, faltando el 10% o más de los días escolares debido a ausencias por cualquier motivo (justificadas, injustificadas, suspensiones), pueden tener dificultades para aprender a leer en el tercer grado, lograr logros académicos en la escuela secundaria (grados 6-8) y graduarse de la preparatoria. 

Sabemos que usted se preocupa profundamente por el bienestar académico y social de su hijo/a y que el mejor lugar para que aprenda y crezca es en la escuela. Cada día que su hijo/a está ausente, se atrasa en sus clases y requiere trabajo para ponerse al día. También pierden todas las oportunidades de disfrutar la escuela con sus compañeros y sus maestros. 

Si usted o su hijo/a tienen dificultades para estar en la escuela, podemos ayudarlo. 

Cuando los estudiantes están enfermos (a corto plazo): 

• Visite una clínica de salud comunitaria de Legacy Community Health para medidas preventivas como vacunas contra la gripe o cuando su hijo/a se sienta enfermo 

• Pídale a su consejero de apoyo estudiantil que se conecte con Legacy Community Health 

Cuando los estudiantes están enfermos (largo plazo): 

• Si se encuentra en esta situación, comuníquese con el consejero de apoyo estudiantil de su escuela para solicitar una reunión. 

Si hay problemas de salud mental: 

• Complete un Formulario de Asistencia al Estudiante (SAF, por sus siglas en inglés) si su hijo/a necesita ayuda con los servicios de salud mental, su consejero de apoyo al estudiante hará un seguimiento para ayudarlo. 

Si hay problemas de transporte: 

• Puede encontrar la parada de autobús más cercana a su hogar y acceder a la información de ruta más actualizada en el sitio de YES Prep transportación. Puede enviar una solicitud de cambio de parada de autobús y/o actualizar la dirección de su casa visitando el campus de origen de su hijo/a durante el horario de funcionamiento. 

Dentro de las 48 horas posteriores a una ausencia de la escuela, su hijo/a debe regresar con una nota justificada firmada por un médico y/o tutor. Visite nuestra página web sobre asistencia para obtener información más detallada y recursos para apoyarlo a usted y a su hijo/a. 

ENCUESTA FAMLIAR “POSSIP FAMILY PULSE CHECK” - RESULTADOS DE OCTUBRE Y FECHA LÍMITE PARA NOVIEMBRE

Gracias por compartir sus comentarios en la encuesta familiar “Possip Family Pulse Check” de octubre. Escuchamos del 22.5% de las familias y el 85% reportó un alto grado de satisfacción con la escuela de sus hijos. También aprendimos que el 10% de las familias tenían dificultades para llevar a sus hijos a la escuela todos los días. El 47% informó que su hijo/a faltaba a la escuela debido a una enfermedad o citas médicas, el 33% informó dificultades con el transporte y el 20% informó desafíos socioemocionales.

Encuesta Possip de noviembre se vence el 6 de noviembre 

Continuaremos usando Possip para escuchar a las familias, así que esté atento a la encuesta de Possip de noviembre que se envió el jueves 3 de noviembre por correo electrónico y mensaje de texto. ¡La breve encuesta de 3 preguntas se cerrará a la medianoche del domingo, 6 de noviembre!

ENCUESTA FAMILIAR SOBRE MAESTROS “TEACHER PATHWAY”  

En YES Prep, creemos que la experiencia del estudiante y la familia es fundamental para nuestra misión y el trabajo que hacemos. Cada semestre, las familias de nuestros estudiantes de prekínder a segundo grado y las familias de los estudiantes en nuestros programas YSTEP, SHINE, BASE, GLOW y SOAR reciben una encuesta familiar sobre maestros “Teacher Pathway.” 

Esta encuesta le pedirá a estas familias que den su opinión sobre dos de los maestros de sus hijos. Las preguntas son específicas para ese maestro y su clase y piden a las familias que compartan información sobre sus experiencias. Los comentarios y los datos de la encuesta familiar “Teacher Pathway” se incorporan al puntaje de evaluación de fin de año de cada maestro. Sus respuestas son completamente anónimas; los maestros no podrán ver qué familias dieron qué comentarios. 

La encuesta familiar de “Teacher Pathway” se abrirá el 7 de noviembre y se cerrará el 5 de diciembre. Recibirá un correo electrónico de Panorama Education con el enlace de la encuesta. Cuando inicie la encuesta desde el enlace que se le envió por correo electrónico, debería ver los nombres de dos de los maestros de su hijo/a, así como una serie de preguntas que le piden que reflexione sobre la experiencia de su hijo/a en su salón de clases.

TÍTULO I REUNIONES ANUALES 

Las reuniones de Título I se llevan a cabo en nuestras escuelas para garantizar que las familias estén conscientes de sus derechos y responsabilidades en la educación de sus hijos. 

Lo invitamos a ser parte de la conversación en la Reunión Anual del Título I de su escuela. Esta es una gran oportunidad para aprender más sobre el Título I, cómo puede involucrarse y compartir su perspectiva con el liderazgo de su escuela. Las fechas y horas de las próximas reuniones escolares de Título I se pueden encontrar en la página de participación familiar del sitio web del distrito.

RESULTADOS DEL SAT YA ESTÁN DISPONIBLES PARA SENIORS 

Para aquellos estudiantes en el grado 12 que tomaron el SAT el 12 de octubre de 2022, los puntajes de las pruebas se publicaron en las cuentas de College Board para el 3 de noviembre de 2022. Si un estudiante tuvo que tomar el SAT en un día de recuperación, es posible que no reciba sus puntajes hasta finales de noviembre. Seniors, hablen sobre sus resultados con su consejero universitario para ver cómo su puntaje puede afectar las decisiones que está tomando sobre la universidad. 

Para los estudiantes que obtuvieron 480 en lectura y escritura basadas en evidencia y 530 en el SAT de matemáticas, también obtuvieron una exención de la Evaluación de la Iniciativa de Éxito de Texas (o TSIA por sus siglas en inglés). SAT PARA JUNIORS ES SABADO, 3 DE DICIEMBRE

Estudiantes en el grado 11, su primera administración oficial para el SAT será la semana que regresemos de las próximas vacaciones, el sábado, 3 de diciembre de 2022. La mayoría de los estudiantes ya se han registrado para el SAT en su clase de Junior Seminar. Familias, su hijo/a ha estado trabajando a través de Kaplan Test Prep y ha estado practicando semanalmente en Kahn Academy como parte de su clase de Junior Seminar para prepararse para el SAT. EVENTO DE INSCRIPCIÓN DE INVIERNO UNIVERSITARIO PARA LA CLASE DE 2022 

Familias de la clase de 2022, ¿su hijo no comenzó la universidad este otoño? Sabemos que algunos exalumnos decidieron tomarse un semestre libre antes de comenzar la universidad. Otros pueden haber tenido desafíos en el proceso de inscripción y no comenzaron las clases. 

YES Prep se complace en ayudar a los miembros de la clase de 2022 que no comenzaron la universidad en el otoño a prepararse para comenzar la universidad este invierno. El 1 de diciembre de 2022, organizaremos el evento de inscripción de invierno para la clase de 2022. Los estudiantes pueden trabajar con nuestros especialistas en transición de exalumnos y representantes de los colegios comunitarios locales (Houston Community College, Lone Star College y San Jacinto College) para trabajar a través de su lista de verificación de inscripción para estar listos para comenzar la universidad en enero.
